Forecast: September 27th to be the greenest day in Europe!

After months of training, coaching, and mentoring, Europe is about to select the region’s best and brightest cleantech startups. The ClimateLaunchpad stage is ready to meet 54 teams from 18 countries.

The countries represented during the Regional Final Europe are:
Azerbaijan, Cyprus, Israel, Romania, Turkey, Ukraine, Austria, Estonia, Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland, The Netherlands, United Kingdom.

Startups will compete in eight themes: Adaptation & Resilience, Circular Economies, Urban Solutions, Clean Energy, Sustainable Mobility, Food Systems, Blue Economy and The Next Big Thing.

    European Semi-final: Pitches all finalists

    In the morning, 54 start-ups from Europe will pitch their cleantech idea in front of the jury.

    Pitches will take place behind closed doors and can therefore not be followed live. After the Regional Final Europe, we will share the pitches on our YouTube channel.

    Which 24 teams will be selected to take part in the Global Grand Final on 27th October? And which Top 8 teams (#1 of each theme) will battle again later today at the final stage of the Regional Final Europe to be crowned as Top 3 winners? Here there is also prize money to be won:

    'It's not easy being green' : Talk by dr. Gerdien de Vries

    Don’t get outsmarted.

    Get ahead of the climate game  by tuning into this illuminating talk by leading thinker Dr. Gerdien de Vries (Climate Psychologist, TU Delft).

    Dr. de Vries will reveal the secrets of the psyche – how our way of thinking can create barriers to starting a sustainable business, and more importantly, how to overcome them.

    It costs time and money to develop and scale up much-needed disruptive ideas – how can we do it smarter? Tony Ofori, director at Bank of America, believes it is important to invest in green start-ups in our mission to Net Zero. He’ll explain why and give unmissable advice on how businesses can play a key role in the climate transition.

It’s not easy being green

Here you are, ready to grow your sustainable business idea into a thriving enterprise! You cannot wait to share your innovation with funders and start making the world a bit greener. However, you notice that not everybody is as enthusiastic as you are. As a starting sustainable entrepreneur, you might encounter barriers beyond money, regulations, or technology. In this presentation, dr. Gerdien de Vries will reveal how psychological barriers can cause difficulties in establishing a sustainable business. On the bright side, she will also give examples of how to deal with those barriers.

Suze Gehem

Our moderator & CEO De Groene Grachten

‘If sustainability is possible here, then it can be done everywhere!’ With these words, Suze Gehem started making monuments more sustainable in 2012.

Her company is now an expert in the field of energy saving, sustainability and circularity in historic buildings and areas at home and abroad. The aim is to provide all 140,000 monuments in the Netherlands in collaboration with partners with a sustainability plan.

As an entrepreneur, Suze is the driving force behind a number of organizations. She was awarded 'Sustainable Construction Woman', appears regularly in the media and is a much sought-after speaker and chair of the day.

Gerdien de Vries

Climate Psychologist, Delft University of Technology

Dr. Gerdien de Vries is an associate professor in Climate Psychology at the Technology, Policy, and Management faculty at Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, and director of the Energy Transition Lab of this faculty. Dr. de Vries has a social psychology background and integrates psychological theories and research methods with other scientific disciplines to unravel human behaviour in the climate and energy domain. Furthermore, she assesses how policy and technology influence this behaviour. Dr. de Vries advocates team science and open science and shares her knowledge and research insights with a large audience.

Tony Ofori

Director Global Sustainable Finance Group, Bank of America

Tony is currently a Director in the Global Sustainable Finance Group at Bank of America, where he covers asset finance across Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Recently he completed a 2-year secondment as a Director in the Country Engagement Team under the Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI). This is an external organization that was originally set up by His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales and the World Economic Forum. SMI’s mission is to accelerate a global transition to sustainable markets with a focus on integration of the private sector.

Prior to this Tony spent 9 years in Emerging Markets Structuring at BofA, and prior to that he spent 5 years at Goldman Sachs working in Equities, Insurance and Credit Structuring roles.

Tony has a bachelor’s degree in Materials Science from the Imperial College London, and a PhD from the University of Cambridge in Applied Physics. Tony has been a member of the The Milken Institute’s Young Leaders Circle (YLC) and is currently part of the committee for the Multicultural Leadership Network (an employee network) at BofA.
